CURCULIONIDAE
Weevils (Curculionidae) are a family of herbivorous beetles, the most important and diverse family within the superfamily Curculionoidea. They are one of the largest animal families, with 5,489 genera and 86,100 species worldwide.
They include bark beetles as the subfamily Scolytinae, whose form is modified according to their wood-boring lifestyle. They do not closely resemble other weevils, so they were traditionally considered a separate family, Scolytidae. The family also includes the ambrosia beetle, of which the current subfamily Platypodinae was formerly considered the distinct family Platypodidae.
