FHASMIDAE(STICK)

Phasmatodeans (also known as Phasmida or Phasmatoptera) are an order of insects whose members go by various names, such as stick insects, walking insects, or bug insects. They are occasionally called devil's darning needles, although this name is shared by both dragonflies and crane flies. Generally, they are known as phasmatodeans, phasmids, or ghost insects, and the phasmids of the family Phylliidae are called leaf insects, leaf bugs, walking leaves, or leaf bugs. The group's name derives from the Ancient Greek φάσμα (phasma), meaning apparition or phantom, referring to their resemblance to vegetation, although they are actually animals. Their natural camouflage makes them difficult for predators to detect. However, many species possess various secondary lines of defense, such as startle displays, spines, or toxic secretions. Stick insects of the genera Phryganistria, Ctenomorpha, and Phobaeticus include the longest insects in the world.
