URANIIDAE

The Uraniidae are a family of glossate Lepidoptera belonging to the clade Ditrysia. They include four subfamilies, 90 genera, and approximately 700 species. They are predominantly found in tropical regions.

Many are brightly colored and resemble diurnal butterflies. Indeed, many species are active during the day (e.g., Chrysiridia rhipheus). These butterflies appear to be toxic, and their bright colors serve as a warning to predators.
